How Elder Mark Bassett dies? Cause of death revealed in major statement

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a statement following the death of Elder W. Mark Bassett, a general authority seventy who had been serving since April 2016.
As per the statement, Elder Mark Bassett has died due to a traumatic brain injury.
Bassett died on May 11 at age 59.
Sharing the details, the statement further reads, Elder Bassett, 59, was with his family in St. George when an incident occurred.
The statement says, “We are deeply saddened at the sudden passing of Elder W. Mark Bassett, a General Authority Seventy who had been serving since April of 2016. Elder Bassett passed away on May 11, 2026, as a result of a traumatic brain injury. He was with his family in St. George, Utah, when the incident occurred.”
It further said, “Our love and prayers are with his dear wife Angela, his children, and his grandchildren during this difficult time.”
Commenting on his death, one devotee says, “We all get a turn? Some sooner than others! Life is fragile! RIP gospel warrior!”
Meanwhile, according to the IBT, Mark Bassett was born August 14, 1966, in Carmichael, California, to Edwina Acker and William Lynn Bassett.
The second of five children, he grew up in a gospel-centered home that emphasized faith through small, consistent experiences. He often credited his parents with helping him build a personal foundation of belief.
