Prince William sends powerful message about suicide prevention
Prince William opens mental health centre during awareness week
Prince William, the Prince of Wales has officially opened a new mental health and suicide prevention centre in Birmingham as part of this year's Mental Health Awareness week.
On Monday, the future King of Britain visited the newly launches James' Place Birmingham centre, which provide free therapy and support for men experiencing suicidal thoughts across the West Midlands.
The official Instagram handle of James' place shared details of Prince William's visit, writing, "We’re delighted to announce that James’ Place Birmingham is now officially open! His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales @princeandprincessofwales officially opened James’ Place Birmingham today at the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week."
They continued, "His Royal Highness met our new therapy team, men who have been helped at our other centres, as well as local supporters and donors who have helped bring James’ Place to Birmingham."
"We are now open to referrals from any suicidal men in the West Midlands. Men can self-refer or be referred to the centre by a professional including those working in health and community services, or by a friend or family member. We hope to be able to offer free, life-saving therapy to around 450-500 men in crisis in our first year," the organization detailed.
It is pertinent to mention that this year's theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is "action," and the organization noted, "we are proud to be taking action to stop men dying by suicide in the West Midlands."
Prince William, the Prince of Wales has been long advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention through several royal initiatives.
