King Charles makes rare appearance alongside Prince Edward, Duke of Kent
King Charles steps into historic new role during emotional ceremony
King Charles carried out a significant royal engagement this week.
On Thursday, the monarch attended a special service for the Order of St Michael and St George at St Paul's Cathedral alongside Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.
The ceremony marked the first time Charles has attended the service as Sovereign of the Order since becoming monarch. The royal event honoured individuals recognized for outstanding service in foreign affairs and overseas work, continuing centuries-old tradition within the British monarchy.
Buckingham palace shared photos from the service, showing Charles dressed in ceremonial robes while walking through the cathedral during the formal proceedings.
The details in the caption read, "In recognition of outstanding service by those working in foreign affairs and overseas, The King and The Duke of Kent have attended a service for The Order of St Michael and St George at St Paul’s Cathedral."
"The Order was founded by The Prince Regent, later King George IV, in 1818," it continued.
Concluding with, "Today’s service marked the first time The King has attended as Sovereign of the Order."
While King Charles marked a historic moment, his wife Queen Camilla on the other hand visited The Fan Museum in Greenwich.
During her visit, Her Majesty was presented with the decorative fan featured in her official Coronation portrait painted by acclaimed artist Paul Benney.
