King Charles asserts authority with palace statement on Eugenie pregnancy
Prince William and Kate Middleton unlikely to issue a public statement on Eugenie's pregnancy
Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of King Charles III to share the news of Princess Eugenie's pregnancy, putting to rest rumors that the royal family had abandoned Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's daughters.
The King used the happy occasion to send a message of unity amid relentless trolling of Andrew's daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, over their father's ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The palace said on Monday that Princess Eugenie, who is married to Jack Brooksbank, is expecting her third child this summer.
The message from the King has been seen as a show of support for his nieces amid tabloid reports claiming their status within the Windsor family might be affected due to Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's links with Epstein.
While King Charles's statement is expected to quell the rumors regarding his nieces, Prince William and Kate Middleton's silence on social media about Eugenie's pregnancy might be used to spread a narrative of discord within the royal family.
Some observers have noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales not sharing a public message congratulating Eugenie and her husband doesn't mean the couple has not expressed well wishes privately.
They believe that as long as King Charles is alive and sits on the British throne, no other royal, including his heir Prince William and Kate Middleton, can move against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's daughters.
