Why Prince Philip lived apart from Queen Elizabeth?
Prince Philip spent final years with another woman
Shocking new claims about Prince Philip's life have sparked debate over his final years.
Reports suggested that the late Duke spent his final days away from Queen Elizabeth while forming a close bond with another woman.
The Duke of Edinburgh stepped back from his public duties in 2017 retired to Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate. During this time, Prince Philip was in the company of Penelope Knatchbull, a longtime family friend known as Penny.
Now, royal insider has revealed to Radar Online, "They were very close."
"She spent more time with him than his wife," the source added.
Royal biographer Hugo Vickers shared that while Queen Elizabeth remained at Windsor Castle, she allowed her husband independence in retirement.
Philip and Penny shared interests including carriage driving and their friendship has been described by insiders as close.
It is pertinent to mention that rumours about Philip's alleged past associations with other woman have circulated. While Elizabeth ignored the talk about her husband cheating at the time, the source notes that doesn't mean she "wasn't hurt or furious over his flings."
"But she'd never show it. She refused to let herself, and the monarchy, be humiliated," the source added.
Prince Philip passed away in April 2021 at the age of 99, and Queen Elizabeth passed away the following year.
