Trump says Iran 'wants deal badly' as he comments on peace talks and Iran's FIFA participation
Trump suggested negotiations were moving forward despite little public progress being visible
US President Donald Trump said only a small group of people know the true status of ongoing peace discussions involving Iran, while also confirming he has no objection to the country participating in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump suggested negotiations were moving forward despite little public progress being visible.
“Nobody knows what the talks are except myself and a couple of other people,” Trump said, according to CNN.
"They wanna make a deal badly. We have a problem because nobody for sure who the leaders are. The leaders have been wiped out,” he said.
Trump also commented on Iran’s involvement in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place across North America in June and July.
The remarks followed comments from Gianni Infantino, who confirmed on Thursday that Iran would participate in the tournament and play matches in the United States.
“If Gianni said it, I’m OK,” Trump told reporters.
