King Charles aide 'pushes media away' during Mamdani talk after Koh-i-Noor remark
NYC Mayor met King Charles III after saying he will demand King Charles to return Koh-i-Noor Diamond
King Charles's press secretary reportedly pushed away the media as King Charles met New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday.
They met after Mamdani said he wants to ask the British monarch to return the Koh-i-Noor Diamond, one of the British monarchy’s Crown Jewels.
“If I was to speak to the king … I would probably encourage him to return the Koh-i-Noor Diamond,” Mamdani said during a press conference in the Bronx, when asked about his expected meeting with Charles.
The mayor attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum with the king. It's not known whether he actually made the demand during his chat with the king.
According to the New York Post, the diamond, which is estimated to be worth up to $1 billion, has been used by British royalty for decades and its ownership has been contested by India, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.
