Trump calls to reschedule White House Correspondents Dinner after shooting incident

US President Donald Trump has called for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to be rescheduled within 30 days, with increased security following its recent disruption.

Speaking to 60 Minutes, Trump said: “I hope we’re going to do it again. We should do it within 30 days, and they’ll have even more security, and they’ll have bigger perimeter security.”

The event was interrupted after a suspected gunman moved through a hotel hallway before being stopped by law enforcement.

Trump praised the response of officers, saying: “When you look at it on tape, it’s almost like a blur.”

“But it was amazing because as soon as they (law enforcement) saw that, you could see them draw their guns. They were so professional, aimed their guns, and then they took him down immediately.”

He added that the suspect ran about 45 yards, remarking that the “NFL should sign him up.”

“Some of these people, they may be crazy but they’re not stupid, and they figure things out,” Trump said.

Officials have not yet confirmed a new date for the event, but discussions are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
