Iran foreign minister heads to Russia after Pakistan visit as ceasefire talks continue
Araghchi departed Islamabad after a series of meetings, marking the end of his visits to Pakistan within 48 hours
Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi left Pakistan on Sunday and is travelling to Russia for further talks, according to Iranian state media.
State broadcaster IRIB reported that Araghchi departed Islamabad after a series of meetings, marking the end of his visits to Pakistan within 48 hours.
According to the Iranian Students’ News Agency, he is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
The report said the talks will focus on “the latest status of the negotiations, the ceasefire and surrounding developments,” citing Iran’s ambassador to Moscow.
The visit comes as hopes for direct talks between Iran and the United States appear to be fading, following conflicting statements earlier in the week.
After IRIB’s report, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam thanked Pakistani leaders for “their tireless efforts” to help end the conflict.
Araghchi’s trip to Russia signals a shift in diplomatic focus as Iran seeks support from key allies while negotiations over a ceasefire remain uncertain.
