Iran rejects reports of US meeting in Pakistan as uncertainty grows over peace talks

Iran has said there are no plans for direct talks with the United States in Pakistan, contradicting earlier reports of a possible meeting.

According to statements shared on X, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said, “No meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the US. Iran’s observations would be conveyed to Pakistan.”

Baghaei said Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is currently in Pakistan to meet officials as part of mediation efforts.

He said the visit is “in concert with their ongoing mediation and good offices for ending (the) American imposed war of aggression and the restitution of peace in our region.”

The statement comes amid conflicting signals over potential negotiations. Earlier, the White House said envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were expected to travel to Pakistan to engage in direct talks with Iranian representatives.

The mixed messaging has added to uncertainty around diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the two countries.

Pakistan has been involved in mediation efforts as international pressure grows to find a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
