Iran has begun compiling a legal case over alleged US-Israeli strikes on its scientific and university infrastructure, according to the Mehr News agency.

Officials say the effort is being led “through the Legal Affairs Department of the Presidency,” as authorities gather evidence to pursue action in international forums.

The announcement was made by Hossein Afshin, Iran’s vice president for science, technology and the knowledge-based economy, during a visit to Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.

Iranian officials claim that more than 20 universities have been damaged since the conflict began, and academics have been targeted as part of a broader attempt to weaken the country’s scientific capacity.

“Attacks on scientific and university infrastructure are not only an assault on property and equipment, but also an attack on the foundations of knowledge production, the training of skilled human resources, and the country’s development future,” Afshin said.

He added that authorities are collecting “all technical documentation, expert reports, and field evidence” so it can be submitted “through available legal channels to relevant international bodies.”
