Prince Albert of Monaco, his wife Princess Charlene and their twins recently met with Apostolic Visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, at the Palatine Chapel.
The family prayed in the presence of Father César Penzo at the 19th century decorated chapel, by a German painters Johan Fröschle and Alois Deschler.
According to their official Instagram the façade “depicts the life and martyrdom of Saint Devota, as well as several major religious events in the history of the Grimaldi family—commissioned by Prince Charles III.”
What the Royal Family’s official Instagram page also mentions is how, among the illustrated scenes lie, “the visit of Pope Paul III to Monaco in 1538—in the context of the ‘Congress of Nice’—as well as the passing of the remains of Pope Pius VI in 1802, which lay in state for an entire day in the parish church.
During his time its also said that the Holy Father also viewed the Ó Learghusa Chalice (crafted in vermeil) “dating from the late 15th century. Rediscovered in 2000 and now preserved at Villanova University—where Pope Leo XIV studied—this rare artifact symbolizes a link between European history, the American family roots of Prince Albert II, and the personal journey of the Supreme Pontiff.”
