US artificial intelligence company Anthropic has stepped up its efforts to analyze how AI will reshape white-collar jobs in coming years.

As reported by Axios, Claude parent company is working on an early earning system designed to detect whether AI could disrupt or replace jobs.

The system consists of a new index, aiming to track the impact of AI on various occupations. However, the initial analysis showed “limited evidence” that AI is causing any job losses.

Anthropic economists Maxim Massenkoff and Peter McCrory wrote in a new paper, “By laying this groundwork now, before meaningful effects have emerged, we hope future findings will more reliably identify economic disruption than post-hoc analyses.”

Jobs are considered “exposed” when a large portion of their daily duties can be handled by AI. For instance, when it comes to computer programmers, about 75 percent of their tasks can be assisted by AI tools. Moreover, data entry, customer service, and medical records roles are also high on the list.

According to Anthropic, there is also a safe group in which about 30 percent of jobs show almost zero impact from AI. These roles that require manual dexterity and physical presence can't be replaced by AI models.

"The average change in the gap since the release of ChatGPT is small and insignificant, suggesting that the unemployment rate of the more exposed group has increased slightly but the effect is indistinguishable from zero," researchers said.

Anthropic also argued that AI models have not yet reached the true potential of automation, meaning the technology could upend the labour markets in future.
