Anthropic overtakes OpenAI in business AI adoption
Anthropic and PwC is going to set up new Center of Excellence dedicated to integrating AI into operating model of their clients
For months, OpenAI dominated corporate AI. Then, in April, something shifted. Anthropic's Claude surpassed ChatGPT in business adoption for the first time, reaching 34.4% market penetration versus OpenAI's 32.3%, according to data released by Ramp's AI Index.
The reversal was so dramatic that it stunned observers who'd written OpenAI's enterprise dominance as inevitable.
Anthropic is now going all-in on this strength through a deal with consulting giant PwC, which will turn the firm into a sales force for Claude throughout corporate America.
The new announcement made on Thursday features one big goal to train 30,000 PwC employees in Claude Code, Anthropic's recently released agentic AI system, which will be rolled out globally to train PwC's workforce of 364,000 people.
Anthropic and PwC will set up a new Center of Excellence dedicated to integrating AI into the operating model of their clients, especially in three different areas: developing agentic AI systems, streamlining the deal-making process, and overhauling the way businesses organise their operations.
The firm has used Claude with actual clients, cutting down a 10-week insurance underwriting process to just 10 days.
Work that took hours for security is now done in minutes. This is not a slogan but real-life cases mentioned by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei during the partnership announcement.
Within just one month, in May, Anthropic secured a $1.5 billion investment in its AI services joint venture with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs Asset Management, thus providing the firm not only with Wall Street titans but also with hundreds of portfolio companies owned by these firms, which are under pressure to prove productivity increases using AI technology.
OpenAI, meanwhile, decided to partner with BCG, Accenture, Capgemini, and PwC directly. Google has recently pledged $750 million to help McKinsey, Accenture, and Deloitte launch their own agentic AI.
