Jesse Tyler Ferguson drops bombshell reason why he was against 'Modern Family' spinoff

Jesse Tyler Ferguson recently lifted the lid on why he was against the idea of doing a potential Modern Family spinoff.
He sat down with Wendi McLendon-Covey for the Tuesday, March 3 episode of his Dinner’s On Me podcast.
While touching on different topics, the discussion turned to his show Modern Family, which starred him as Mitchell Pritchett, a lawyer-turned-district attorney.
Ferguson, who played Pritchett for 11 seasons from September 2009 to April 2020, said he was looking for different opportunities after the ABC sitcom ended.
Soon after Modern Family came to an end, he was “so excited for this next chapter” of his life but then the COVID-19 pandemic happened and “then it was like, everyone go inside.”
"During that time, they were brewing this idea of maybe doing a Modern Family spinoff with [Eric Stonestreet] and I, which I was interested in, but I was also supposed to do this play in New York,” the Cocaine Bear star elaborated, alluding to his co-star who played Cameron Tucker in the series.
Ferguson, who was reluctant to do the spinoff, quipped, "It sort of felt like, as the reality of, maybe the spinoff was actually going to happen, I literally felt like, ‘Oh my god, I want to date other people.’”
Notably, the core reason behind Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s hesitance was that he wanted “to feel what it’s like to not do that” in an industry which frequently makes spinoffs of beloved series.
