West Virginia woman arrested over inciting ‘Trump assassination’
'A sniper with a terminal illness can’t be a bug ask out' she wrote on TikTok
A woman in West Virginia has been arrested after authorities say she used social media to encourage the assassination of former President Donald Trump.
According to a report by WOWK, Morgan L. Morrow from Ripley, was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with one count of making threats of terroristic acts, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Ross Mellinger said deputies were alerted to a post that appeared to call for violence against a public official.
Investigators traced the message to a public TikTok account allegedly belonging to Morrow, who works as a library assistant at the Jackson County Public Library.
Court documents state the post included the line: ‘Surely a sniper with a terminal illness can’t be a big ask out of 343 million.’
Authorities said they reviewed the wording and context of the message and concluded it was intended to encourage someone to carry out an attack on President Trump.
Deputies went to Morrow’s home, where she was detained and later questioned at the sheriff’s department.
According to the criminal complaint, Morrow told officers she did not plan to personally act on any threat.
However, investigators said content that incites others to commit violence can still constitute a criminal offence, even if the speaker does not intend to carry it out themselves.
The case remains under investigation.
