A tragic incident happened on the first day of the New Year as several people were killed after an explosion and fire in a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana early this morning, January 1, 2026.
A Swiss media outlet reported that there were approximately 100 people in the bar when the explosion occurred.
The explosion occurred at around 01:30 (00:30 GMT) in a bar called Le Constellation. Meanwhile, the actual cause of the blast is not yet known.
According to the BBC, footage circulating on social media, which was ostensibly taken from the road outside the bar, shows a fire inside the building; work is currently ongoing to verify these images.
According to a Swiss news outlet, the blast occurred as fireworks were set off during a concert, though the actual cause remains unknown.
Crans-Montana is a premier ski resort, which is a popular destination for British tourists.
The serious incident resulted in several fatalities and numerous injuries following an explosion in the bar.
Unverified footage circulating on social media shows a fire burning inside the bar where New Year’s Eve celebrations were taking place.
