Prince William has secretly accepted a new major role to become patron of the Special Air Service Regimental Association (SASRA).
The Prince of Wales has confirmed his patronage in a private newsletter sent to members of SAS.
The future king says in the letter, “It is with a deep sense of honour and respect that I accept your invitation to become patron of the Special Air Service Regimental Association."
“The SAS has long stood as a symbol of courage, resilience and unwavering dedication to duty and the service of this country,” William said and added “The association continues that camaraderie forged on the battlefield and provides essential support to its members and families.”
The SAS newsletter also said: “I am delighted to let you know that His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has agreed to become Patron of the Special Air Service Regimental Association.
“His Royal Highness has had a long relationship with the armed forces, and particularly the Special Air Service, from visiting Stirling Lines as a young boy, through to spending several months with us as a young officer.”
Royal expert Matt Wilkinson took to X, formerly Twitter handle and shared the Sun report, saying “New: Prince William speaks of a "deep sense of honour and respect" after becoming patron of the feared SAS, hailing the elite unit as a "symbol of courage, reliance, and unwavering dedication to duty and the service of this Country".
