King Charles' new video raises eyebrows
King Charles is seen tasting a beer during a visit to Guinness Open Gate Brewery in London
A new video released by the royal family shows King Charles tasting a beer during his visit to the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in London.
The footage has prompted questions about whether the monarch, who is currently receiving cancer treatment, is allowed to drink alcohol.
The caption accompanying the video reads: “His Majesty met Diageo’s Learning for Life hospitality graduates, tasted brews exclusive to the site, and joined a festive celebration with local community groups in Old Brewer’s Yard.” It does not specify whether the King consumed a full glass of beer after tasting it.
Experts note that most cancer‑care guidelines advise patients to avoid alcohol entirely while undergoing treatment.
If a doctor ever permits a small amount, it would still be far less than a full pint of Guinness, which the monarch tasted during his visit.
The video comes after King Charles said last week that his doctors can reduce his treatment for cancer in the new year, describing the moment as a "blessing" and testament to remarkable medical advances.
Charles, 77, was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer last February, and made the latest announcement in a televised broadcast as part of a national cancer awareness campaign in Britain.
"I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to doctors' orders, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year," he said.
