Queen Camilla feared public scrutiny as King Charles battled cancer
Queen Camilla initially urged King Charles to keep cancer diagnosis private
Queen Camilla initially urged King Charles to keep his cancer diagnosis private due to fears that public attention could affect his recovery.
According to a new report, the Queen Consort believed secrecy was the safest option for Charles after she learned of his condition for the very first time.
An insider told The Times that Camilla was worried that once the news of Charles’ cancer became public, it could not be contained.
“It can now be revealed that when The King learned he had cancer nearly two years ago, his wife initially believed his diagnosis should remain private," they said.
The insider added, "She feared the toll public scrutiny of his health might take on his recovery."
A previous report has also revealed that Camilla was afraid that “once the door on it had been opened, it could never be closed.”
However, the King and the Queen now agree that being open has had a positive impact as it helped raised awareness about cancer.
Moreover, the source noted that it also had a positive impact on King Charles as it boosted his spirits through public support
“Both of them now unequivocally think that being so open has been hugely positive — positive for public engagement with raising awareness around cancer and also personally for him in terms of how public good has come from personal misfortune,” they shared.
The Queen has now “taken comfort in how buoyed her husband has been by the public response to his candor about his illness.”
