Meghan Markle is set to drop her Christmas special, With Love, Meghan, this week. But a royal commentator is sounding an alarm; if she were not able to get a major celebrity guest, her career would be doomed.
“She has not made a great success of With Love so far," Richard Fitzwilliams, an ex-editor of the International Who's Who, tells The Mirror.
To put his claim in context, the first season reached the Netflix Global Top 10, but this success was not repeated for season two.
In light of this, the expert says, “So her Christmas show is a test because if she doesn’t get an A-lister for it, it’s doomed.”
The problem, Richard claims, is Meghan's failure to attract Hollywood A-list celebrities on her show, adding that she “can’t break into the A-list crowd."
Her recent visit to Paris for the Balenciaga fashion show then makes sense, the royal expert argues.
“It made perfect sense, because there she was with Anna Wintour, with Anne Hathaway, and with Baz Luhrmann," he notes.
"It was a very high-profile event and there’s nothing wrong in attending an event of that sort."
Meghan's only manages to get one A-list pal on her show, Serena Williams, says Richard. "But if you look at all her podcasts and her Netflix episodes, you do not find well known names."
"As far as I can see, she has got one A-list friend, Serena Williams, who she has been friends with for a long time, but she hasn’t got A-list backing in Hollywood.”
In the meantime, a promo for the new episode was dropped last month. “I love the holiday season. It’s about finding time to connect with the people we love, embracing traditions, and making new ones."
"Let the festivities commence and embrace the special touches that bring you joy," Meghan said in the voiceover as the clip showed snippets of Prince Harry and tennis player Naomi Osaka.
