Meghan Markle faces ridicule over ‘cringeworthy’ interview move
Meghan Markle slammed for performative introduction in new interview
Meghan Markle faces ridicule over a recent interview moment described as “cringeworthy.”
During the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Harper’s Bazaar, a house manager is said to have announced her as “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.”
Prince Harry’s wife has been receiving criticism over the alleged moment because the announcement happened with only three people present in the room.
Speaking with The Express, PR expert Renae Smith said the gesture seemed planned and overly performative, warning it could damage Meghan’s public image.
She said that such incidents influence public perception more than magazine appearances and called it “messy.”
"That would have been planned. There is no universe in which something like that happens spontaneously,” the expert said.
She added, “She either agreed to it or requested it. Either way, it is tone deaf. This is the stuff that shapes public opinion of her.”
“Not the cover. From a PR perspective, it is messy (and the cringiest of cringe). And she is consistently messy.
“Right now she looks confused, reactive and completely disconnected from what actually works for her."
Another royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that the announcement “would make a wonderful skit in the South Park series.”
He added, “It speaks volumes, in an interview calculated not to offend, about the importance Meghan attaches to her royal status.”
Mr. Fitzwilliams said the journalist should have been introduced to Meghan, not the other way around.
“So this breaks protocol,” he said, adding: “It also makes her look silly.”
