Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt open up about ‘Jungle Cruise’ sequel
Hollywood stars address rumours that the ‘Jungle Cruise’ was in development
Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt have recently broken silence on Jungle Cruise sequel.
The wrestler-turned-actor, who starred in 2021’s Jungle Cruise alongside Emily, seemingly confirms that the sequel might not happen.
While discussing the potential sequel of Jungle Cruise, Dwayne and Emily tell Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast, “I don’t think so.”
The Smashing Machine star thought that after Disney came under “new leadership,” they “shifted coming out of Covid”.
“Covid shifted our business in a lot of ways,” continues the Fast & Furious actor.
Dwayne notes that he and Emily “looked at that property and thought, we did it once, not sure if we should revisit it again”.
“Despite whether or not our chemistry was great,” admits the Black Adam actor.
However, Emily adds that they “didn’t want to set sail again, and that’s fine”.
The original Jungle Cruise, which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, is based on the Disney theme park attraction that launched in July 1955 at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
Besides Dwayne and Emily, other cast members include Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons and Paul Giamatti.
The movie, which was released on July 30, 2021, went to earn a whopping $220M with a reported budget of $200M.
According to the plotline, the movie features “a captain of a small riverboat who takes a scientist and her brother through a jungle in search of the Tree of Life while competing against a German expedition and cursed conquistadores,” per Deadline.
