Kensington Palace issues update after William’s key meeting in Belém
Prince William returns to UK after conducting significant meeting over crucial issue
Prince William wrapped his historic visit to Brazil with on a significant note as he conducted a special meeting before returning back to the UK.
The Prince of Wales delivered a powerful speech at the climate summit, COP30, calling for world leaders to leave “delay and division” behind for the sake of the planet as it edges “dangerously close” to “critical tipping points”.
He stressed on the fact how human beings have to shift into a whole new way of life to survive, hence urged to “rise to meet this pivotal moment in human history” and “not waste” it.
After sending the strong message, William held a meeting with Indigenous leaders at one of the Amazon’s most historic institutions on Friday.
The Museu Emílio Goeldi, founded in 1866, is the oldest museum in the Amazon, known for its research about the rich natural and cultural heritage in the region.
Kensington Palace shared highlights from the meeting, along with the statement acknowledging the “brilliant” meetup on behalf of the future king.
“Great to learn about the ancient sumauma tree - a powerful symbol of spiritual connection for many Indigenous communities,” it read. “Indigenous Peoples are protecting vital ecosystems and combining traditional knowledge with digital tools to safeguard their lands and cultures.”
The Amazon, home to the planet’s largest tropical forest, is dubbed as the ‘lungs of the Earth’. In recent years, the region has been vulnerable to many threats from climate change to human activities which are disruptive to the natural ecosystems that exists in the vicinity.
Belém is situated in Brazil’s lower Amazon region and despite being a bustling port city, it boasts the botanical park which is home to more than 3000 plant species.
William’s visit to the important site reiterates his message about the importance of how keeping the locals in the loop and he is keeping his word an the matter.
Previously, William had announced a new partnership between the Royal Foundation and the Coordination of Indigenous Organisations of the Brazilian Amazon. The future king had emphasised that the initiative is focussed to work together with those “who know the land best”.
