Princess Anne steps into Queen Elizabeth's shoes with latest outing
The Princess Royal marks an important milestone for a cause close to her late mother's heart
Princess Anne is carrying forward the legacy of her late mother Queen Elizabeth II.
The Princess Royal had a jam-packed day of royal engagements on Wednesday, September 24, as previously announced in The Royal Diary. One of those engagements was a visit to the Naval Children’s Charity — an organisation which supports children from Royal Navy and Marines families by providing financial, guidance, and opportunities for personal development.
The younger sister of King Charles III visited the charity for the first time since being appointed its patron back in March, taking up the reins from the late Queen.
“Queen Elizabeth II was patron of the charity for over 70 years, becoming its patron in 1945,” explained a statement on the royal family’s official Instagram page. “This is the first visit by The Princess Royal since becoming the charity’s patron.”
The visit also marked the organisation’s 200-year anniversary.
In pictures accompanying the Instagram post, Anne was beaming as she spoke with children and spouses of navy officers and marines. The Princess is undoubtedly the perfect person to step into this role as she has been married to a retired Royal Navy Officer, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, for 33 years.
During the visit, Anne also unveiled a plaque to mark the organisation’s bicentenary and received flowers and a special gift bag containing NCC merchandise.
