Meghan Markle gains powerful ally amid empire shake-up after major rift
The Duchess of Sussex has a major turn of luck after her rumoured rival's four-decade reign ends
The tides just turned in Meghan Markle’s favour as she gains a powerful new ally years after a major rift.
American Vogue’s newly appointed editorial content chief, Chloe Malle, followed the Duchess of Sussex on Instagram — a move royal watchers see as a possible thaw in relations between Meghan and the fashion powerhouse.
Malle, 39, stepped into the role after Anna Wintour’s nearly four-decade reign this week and appears to be signaling a different approach.
Under Wintour, Meghan’s relationship with the magazine reportedly soured, with tensions peaking in 2022. At the time, the former Suits actress’ team was said to have pushed for specific headlines and cover placement to coincide with her Manchester summit appearance.
“Anna was p***** off. Anna was like frustrated with all the micromanaging, and just was like, ‘All right. That’s it. She can’t have the cover and we’re not doing the story,’” a source told the Daily Mail at the time. The feature was scrapped, leaving Meghan off Vogue’s prestigious September issue.
The fallout allegedly strained her friendship with British Vogue’s Edward Enninful as well. Despite guest-editing the magazine’s Forces for Change issue in 2019, Meghan has yet to land a Vogue cover.
With Malle’s arrival, however, that might finally change.
