Journalist Alec Luhn rescued after cliff fall, five-day survival in mountains
The national park, where journalist went missing, is home to country's three gigantic glaciers
UK based American journalist Alec Luhn was rescued from the Norwegian mountainside after surviving alone in the wilderness for five days.
The 38-year-old climate change reporter went missing during his four-day hiking trip that started on July 31. He was reported missing on Monday, August 4.
A massive rescue operation was launched, but Luhn had shattered his femur after falling from a cliff in Folgefonna National Park, Alec was unable to move or signal for help to the helicopter who kept flying in the area for days.
According to the Daily Mail, the journalist, who survived almost a week in the wilderness just by drinking rain water and two chocolate bars he had in his bag, was spotted by the helicopter due to his bright red coat.
Alec’s wife, Viktoria Silchenko, expressed relief, saying, “I think it’s a miracle. I am so grateful to all the people who were involved in the rescue. It’s the best day of my life.”
Viktoria, an award-winning filmmaker, is flying to Norway to see her husband.
The national park, where the journalist went missing, is home to the country's three gigantic glaciers and it expands over 136,000 acres.
