Palace issues emotional update as royal family mourns major loss
Royal family mourns tragic loss during Saturday’s Trooping the Colour
King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton and other members of the royal family mourned the tragic loss during Saturday’s Trooping the Colour.
The royal family members looked visibly emotional during minute's silence for Air India plane crash victims, wearing black armbands.
More than 240 people died on Thursday after a London-bound airliner crashed in Ahmedabad, India.
Buckingham Palace shared photos from the parade on the official Instagram account of the royal family.
The Palace wrote: "On their 375th anniversary this year, Number 7 Company of the @Coldstream_Guards had the honour of Trooping their Colours in front of The King today."
"At the request of His Majesty, members of the Royal Family taking part in the parade wore black armbands as a mark of respect following the Air India tragedy in Ahmedabad this week."
Officials confirmed there were 169 Indian, 53 British, one Canadian and seven Portuguese passengers on board at the time of the crash with just one British national surviving.
To mark the tragedy, a minutes silence was held following the parade at Horse Guards. The royals stood united in sober reflection before assembled troops as they observed the silence.
The King reportedly wanted the change "as a mark of respect for the lives lost, the families in mourning and all the communities affected by this awful tragedy."
However, the royals attending in civilian clothing did not wear the sombre armbands. In addition, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Timothy Laurence and the Duchess of Gloucester also attended in civilian clothing.
