UK Police issued urgent new orders as King Charles is set to make an historic visit to his private estate.
Buckingham Palace had confirmed that the monarch will be visiting his Duchy of Lancaster on Monday to meet representatives from local businesses, before joining a reception celebrating the region.
Charles will be making his first-ever official visit to Lancashire – which he inherited from his late mother Queen Elizabeth – after he ascended to the throne in 2022.
On Sunday, new safety protocols were put in place to ensure that the locals are not inconvenienced while making sure that there are no gaps in the protection of the King.
“We want everyone who would like to turn out and support his visit to have a safe and enjoyable day and we’d like to make the public aware of some airspace restrictions as a result,” Lancashire police said in a statement.
They announced that “a temporary airspace restriction will be in place, from 0800-1700hrs on Monday 9th June 2025”, covering a large area of the county.
The Lancashire Constabulary warned that they will be “monitoring the airspace in and around the restricted airspace” and any “unmanned aircraft to fly below 1,400ft above sea level” in the area without the permission will face “robust action”.
Culprits could face “prosecution and or have their drone and associated equipment seized.”
During the visit, the King is expected to take part in the ancient tradition of being presented with the Keys to the Castle outside the John O’Gaunt gateway.
Following the ceremony, the King, who is also the Duke of Lancaster, will attend a reception with local business representatives and community members including Lancaster’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Schofield.
