WhatsApp unveils new option to forward content directly to Meta AI

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that promises to streamline how users interact with Meta AI, the company's artificial intelligence assistant. 

According to WABetaInfo, beta testers with the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.18.8 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, can explore a new way to interact with Meta AI through the capability to forward message.

The update, currently in beta testing for select users, will allow direct forwarding of messages and media to Meta AI, eliminating the need for copy-pasting.

To check if you have access to this new functionality, simply attempt to forward a message within WhatsApp. If "Meta AI" appears as an option on the forwarding screen, you can seamlessly send text, images, or videos directly to the chatbot.

This feature aims to make it more efficient for users to seek assistance, ask questions, or request analysis of content shared within their chats. Previously, users had to manually copy information and paste it into the Meta AI chat. The new feature eliminates the hassle of saving or retyping.

Furthermore, the update introduces the option to include a personal note alongside the forwarded messages or media, providing additional context for Meta AI's to give more precise and personalised responses.

For instance, if a user forwards a photo, they might ask, "Is this image authentic?" or "Can you describe what you see?" This additional context enables Meta AI to offer more relevant and insightful responses for users seeking information, clarifications, or quick summaries.

Importantly, Meta AI can only access content that users choose to share intentionally. Forwarding messages is entirely optional, and any shared content may be used by Meta to help improve its AI systems.

Additionally, it is possible that this message forwarding option is also becoming available in the stable version of the app. This means that users who are not enrolled in the beta programme may also be able to take advantage of this feature.

The new feature will be rolled out to even more people over the coming weeks.
