KARACHI: Pakistan's rising squash star, Ashab Irfan, clinched the South Australian Open Squash Championship title today, defeating Malaysia's Duncan Lee in a commanding straight-game final.
The top-seeded Irfan showcased exceptional form, winning 11-8, 12-10, 11-9 without dropping a single game in the championship match.
This victory marks Irfan's second professional title of the year, adding to his earlier triumph at the RC Pro Series 2025. The 62nd-ranked Ashab Irfan entered the tournament with a bye in the first round, demonstrating his top seeding.
Irfan's path to the final saw him overcome Hong Kong's Lee Chung in the second round, followed by a thrilling 3-2 victory against Malaysia's Joachim Chuah in a nail-biting third-round encounter.
He defeated compatriot Hamza Khan in the semi-final before claiming his 6th PSA title defeating Duncan Lee in the final.
The competition, held in Adelaide, offered a total prize purse of $9,000. Irfan, 21, has been rising steadily in the Professional Squash Association rankings and is considered one of Pakistan's most promising players.
