Barrie to become new home of Toronto FC II in 2028
The proposed stadium will have 3,500 permanent seats and will become the new home of Toronto FC II
Toronto FC II will relocate to Barrie in 2028 as part of a partnership that includes the construction of a new football-specific stadium in the city's downtown.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the City of Barrie, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), MLS NEXT Pro and Barrie Stadium Group.
The proposed stadium will have 3,500 permanent seats and will become the new home of Toronto FC II, which was introduced as Barrie MLS NEXT Pro ahead of a future rebrand. Officials said the club's permanent name, crest and colours will be revealed later.
The venue will also host concerts, community events and amateur sports, including rugby and lacrosse.
Plans include a covered grandstand, 16 suites, a club lounge, fieldside seating and a rooftop terrace. Capacity could increase to 6,500 for sporting events and 8,500 for concerts.
"This right here will be the most iconic small stadiums in Canada," Barrie MLS NEXT Pro president and chief executive Peter Raco told reporters.
"We're always gonna keep evolving. We have a lot of work to do. and we're hoping to build one of the best clubs in Canada,” Raco added.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 or early 2027 an the team currently plays at York Lions Stadium in Toronto and will continue competing in MLS NEXT Pro after moving to Barrie.
