Benedict Cumberbatch plays coy about his role in upcoming ‘Avengers’ film
Benedict Cumberbatch gives update on Doctor Strange character in forthcoming MCU films
Benedict Cumberbatch, the British actor, recently clarified his character, Doctor Strange's involvement in the next Avengers film.
The Sherlock star, who previously claimed to the Variety that his character would not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, changed his statement at Sundance Film Festival.
"I got that wrong, I am in the next one," Cumberbatch told Business Insider when asked if he received any "sternly-worded emails" from the infamously secretive Marvel team.
However, given the history of Marvel stars misleading the public about their roles, it is doubtful that whether the actor who had played crucial role in Infinity War and Endgame is telling the truth.
Following the footsteps of these stars, The Imitation Game actor remained evasive as he smirked, saying, "Don't ever believe anything I say."
During the Sundance Film Festival he also teased his involvement in Avengers: Secret Wars which is set to come after Doomsday, revealing that, "He [Doctor Strange] is quite central to where things might go."
As of the last year’s Comic-Con, Marvel surprised its fans as they announced the return of Robert Downy Jr to MCU not as Iron Man, but as Doctor Doom for Doomsday, as according to the People Magazine the original star Jonathan Major’s was dropped from the franchises due to legal troubles.
The Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, while, Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
