Blake Lively’s brother-in-law backs down from ‘unkind’ statements against Justin Baldoni
Blake Lively’s brother-in-law regrets addressing Justin Baldoni with ‘anything unkind’ amid legal battle
Bart Johnson, best known for his role in High School Musical, is reflecting on his past comments as his sister-in-law, Blake Lively, continues her legal dispute with It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
On Tuesday, Johnson responded to a critic on X questioning why he deleted a previous tweet allegedly about Baldoni after Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, were labeled as “liars and egotistic narcissists.”
"My [past] comment wasn’t for any individual. Never said a name," Johnson wrote in a since-deleted tweet, per Us Weekly.
"It was directed at a certain ‘type’ [of person] that I find performative and disingenuous when they post clips of themselves being ‘amazing’ and even add sappy music to enhance it. There’s a lot of that out there."
Johnson, 54, who is married to Lively’s sister, Robyn Lively, later expressed regret for his words, acknowledging that anytime he has spoken unkindly, he has “regretted it.”
"Fortunately that’s almost never and definitely not when I’m at my best," he continued in a follow-up tweet.
"Regardless if it’s true or not, if it’s my opinion, even if I’m trying to speak truth or stand up for someone, it’s never good. Even in times where it might ‘feel’ justified and doing the right thing, it makes no difference."
Johnson admitted that there is a “better way” to address such situations and that his actions did not align with the personal standard he holds for himself.
"I regret it. I do sincerely apologize to anyone I’ve hurt or let down by saying something that sounds mean. I’ll do better," he wrote.
The Disney alum further emphasized his commitment to fostering positivity, adding, "We all have flaws and I’m definitely a work in progress and doing my best to grow and be better."
His public reflection and apology follow his vocal support for Lively, 37, after she filed a complaint on December 21, accusing Baldoni of attempting to damage her reputation.
