Will Ferrell remembers making blunder in his ‘SNL’ debut skit
Will Ferrell recalls messing up with his line during his first ‘Saturday Night Live’ appearance
Will Ferrell, the Barbie star, opened up about his blunder on his Saturday Night Live debut in 1995.
During an interview with Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, the Anchorman actor talked about his opening act.
“One of my 'Welcome to Hollywood' moments was getting to be the first member of a brand-new cast on Saturday Night Live, and I got to say the first lines of our opening show," Ferrell recalled.
He added, "A little trivia here: I mess up my line the first time I speak on camera on the show. I flub it."
The Elf artist briefly stumbled over a line in Get Off the Shed skit, after successfully saying, “Hey there, how ya doing?" he slipped up in second line: "I don't know we've bee— that we've met before."
Elsewhere in the interview, he shared the reason of his blunder. Ferrell said that during the dress rehearsal, he felt confident but then when sat in the chair waiting for the show to begin “the enormity of the moment” hit him.
“I start to get a little bit emotional thinking about, 'Wow, this is the thing I've always dreamed about,' and then it was like, 'Five seconds!'" he said.
Hence the pressure of the moment led Ferrell to spurt out total gibberish during the skit.
Will Ferrell upcoming movie You’re Cordially Invited, starring alongside Reese Witherspoon is slated for release on January 30, 2025.
