T20 World Cup 2024: England beat Oman in 3.1 overs
Group B clash ended with a walkover for England offering defending champions to heave a sigh of relief
Defending champions England have got a walkover in mere 3.1 overs while chasing a 48-run target against Oman in the 28th fixture of the T20 World Cup 2024 being played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound.
Facing the first over, Phil Salt was in a mood for fireworks as he hit two consecutive sixes on the first two balls but was clean bowled on the third ball. Skipper Jos Butler scored 24 off 8 deliveries. He churned out 22 from third over.
Earlier, England bundled out Oman for mere 47 runs after defending champions invited them to bat first. Shoaib Khan was the only batter of Oman who reached the double figures, scoring 11 off 23 balls.
England's bowler Adil Rashid was in top gear as he dismissed four batters while allowing only 11 runs. Meanwhile, Mark Wood and Jofra Archer also played brilliantly with 3/12 and 3/12 respectively.
Adil Rashid received the Man of the Match award.
The defending champions have made one change - Reece Topley replacing Chris Jordan.
England are on the verge of getting eliminated from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The Jos Buttler-led side had their game abandoned against Scotland and lost their second match against Australia.
Oman, on the other hand, lost all three matches so far. They lost to Namibia in the super-over and, later, lost to Australia and Scotland. They are out of contention to qualify for the Super 8.
