Bad breath, also known as "halitosis", is a common problem faced by thousands around the world.
According to a study that combined data from 13 different researches suggested that 31.8% of the world's population suffers from it, Health reported.
The most common cause of bad breath is poor dental hygiene, it can be caused due to cavities, not brushing properly, gum diseases, tartar build up, among others.
Other reasons include diet, dry mouth, smoking and health conditions. Here are some ways to treat bad breath.
Improve oral hygiene
This includes, brushing at least twice daily for two minutes each time, flossing at least once a day and cleaning your tongue.
Visit dentist
Experts suggest visiting the dentist at least once a year for cleaning and check-ups. Regular check-ups help eliminate any building bacteria or disease.
Manage health conditions
Health conditions such as diabetes, gum disease, lung infection, sinus infection, among others can cause bad breath, so treating these conditions will help you get rid of bad breath as well.
Diet and lifestyle changes
Certain foods like garlic, spices, and onions can also cause bad breath and avoiding them before going out may help in getting rid of bad breath.
Furthermore, studies suggest consuming healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables and cutting back on unhealthy foods like junk and sweet drinks may reduce the risk of cavities, helping improve oral health.
