Usher nabs Entertainer of the Year trophy at NAACP Image Awards
Usher joined the likes of Muhammad Ali, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and others with the President’s Award
Usher has been crowned the Entertainer of the Year at the 55th NAACP Image Awards, beating out Keke Palmer, Halle Bailey, Colman Domingo and Fantasia Barrino.
On Saturday at the Shrine Auditorium, Oprah Winfrey presented the R&B superstar with the coveted accolade of the night.
In his acceptance speech, the Yeah! hitmaker expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reeled off several of his significant moments —sold-out residency in Las Vegas, getting married, and most watched Super Bowl halftime performance— during his career spanning over three decades.
Additionally, Usher, who recently released his ninth studio album, Coming Home, received the President’s Award in an nod to public service achievements through his New Look Foundation.
Taking his winning streak to social media, the singer, who bagged six nominations at the 2024 Image Awards, penned a note on X.
"Thank you @naacpimageaward and @BET for honouring me as Entertainer of the Year, Outstanding Male Artist, and presenting me with the President’s Award [trophy emoji] #NAACPImageAwards," he wrote.
Notably, previous recipients of the President’s Award include Muhammad Ali, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, LeBron James, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Dwyane Wade, Rihanna, Jesse Jackson, Colin Powell, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Lauryn Hill, among others.
