Barcelona to hire Cristiano Ronaldo's international boss Roberto Martinez as their manager
Cristiano Ronaldo's manager Roberto Martinez is expected to succeed over Barcelona's Xavi
Barcelona is reportedly pursuing Roberto Martinez, the manager of Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal team, to succeed departing manager Xavi.
The renowned Xavi made his departure known at the end of the season after a run of unimpressive performances that culminated in a 5-3 La Liga home loss to Villarreal in January, according to Sportskeeda.
Xavi's team is eight points off the top of La Liga with just 12 games remaining after losing to Real Madrid in the Supercopa Espana final and to Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
Football Transfers reported that Martinez, who took over as Portugal's coach following their 2022 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal loss, is among the candidates being connected to the Camp Nou position come summertime.
Martinez might accomplish both at the same time because, according to the previously cited source, the defending La Liga winners have extended an initial one-year contract to the Spaniard and want him to stay on the Portugal team.
With Ronaldo and company, the Spaniard has enjoyed success; throughout their successful UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, they have won all 10 of their games. The Portuguese manager has overseen Swansea, Wigan Athletic, and Everton in club football.
However, the Spaniard has not yet replied to Barca's offer, and any decision is anticipated only during Portugal's summertime European Championship campaign in Germany.
