Lionel Messi looking at ‘busy’ 2024 due to Argentina, MLS commitments
Messi to appear in Copa America 2024, Olympic Games 2024, US Leagues Cup and other tournaments this year
After enthralling millions of fans from his stint in the Major League Soccer (MLS) for Inter Miami last year, Lionel Messi is all set to repeat the same as the star footballer will feature in multiple tournaments for both Argentina and the US-based club.
Messi, who was forced to sit on the sidelines at the end of the 2023 season due to an injury resulting from overload due to constant travelling and continuous matches, will appear in a total of seven major tournaments in 2024.
The star footballer will represent his national side Copa America 2024 and the Olympic Games 2024, whereas for Inter Miami, he will attempt to bring glory to the David Beckham-owned club in the US Leagues Cup, MLS, CONCACAF Champions League, Interamericana Cup, and Copa Intercontinental (CONCACAF Champions League winner only), reported as.com.
Messi’s busy schedule comes after he had to take some time off the field last year due to being overwhelmed as a result of constant travelling and an increased number of matches.
However, MLS — in its bid to address this issue — has announced that none of its franchises will feature in the US Open Cup in 2024.
The move is aimed at allowing more “rest time” for the players in the US football calendar.
For Messi, it also means he faces a reduced risk of injury — one such that left him unavailable for Inter Miami at the end of the 2023 season.
