Juventus missed their most-awaited chance to take the lead in the Serie A after drawing 1-1 against Genoa.

Albert Gudmundsson's goal in the second half secured the draw for Genoa, denying Juventus the opportunity to claim the top Serie A spot.

Despite Juventus closing the gap on Inter Milan to just one point, they could fall further behind if Inter win against Lazio on Sunday.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri expressed disappointment, highlighting the need to capitalise on important chances during the game. He mentioned, "When you have to score against the opponent, it's crucial," highlighting the significance of seizing key moments.

The match saw Juventus starting strong, but Federico Chiesa missed a big opportunity to score in the first half. However, Chiesa later redeemed himself, scoring from a penalty spot after a foul by Genoa's goalkeeper Josep Martinez.

Yet, Genoa swiftly responded, with Gudmundsson netting a goal early in the second half after an impressive team play.

Despite Juventus' efforts to break the deadlock, a golden opportunity arose in the 89th minute for them to secure three points. However, Genoa's Martinez made an exceptional save, denying Bremer's attempt to score from a corner.

The draw proved crucial for Genoa, helping them move four points clear of the relegation zone and securing the 14th spot in the league standings.

Looking ahead, Napoli, the struggling reigning champions, are set to face Cagliari on Saturday in another anticipated match in the Serie A.
