Dublin stabbing: Three schoolchildren among five knifed in Irish capital with at least one critical
Dublin stabbing attack was perpetrated around 1 pm near Parnell Square West
Five individuals, including three children and two adults, are said to be critical in a Dublin hospital after a knife-wielding man reportedly went on a frenzied stabbing spree near a girls' school located on the northern side of Ireland's capital's centre, The Irish Times reported.
"A person of interest has been identified and a large knife has been seized at the scene on Parnell Square East. Gardaí have sealed off the scene," The Irish Times said in a report on Dublin stabbing.
"The chief suspect for the knife attack has been detained and had sustained wounds believed to be self-inflicted."
The incident unfolded shortly after 1 pm near Parnell Square on the north-side of the Irish capital.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene of the major incident.
According to a witness who spoke to The Irish Times, around 1:45 pm, a man was observed attacking a group of young people with a knife.
In a statement, Gardai indicated that they are currently unable to provide further details but confirmed that they are investigating the circumstances of the serious public order incident.
The statement reads, "Five casualties have been taken to various hospitals in the Dublin Region. The casualties include an adult male, an adult female, and three young children. One child, a girl, has sustained serious injuries, while the other two children are being treated for less serious injuries."
Gardai are in contact with the parents of all three injured children. The adult female is undergoing treatment for serious injuries, and the adult male is being treated for less serious injuries.
The scene has been sealed off, and Gardai is following a definite line of inquiry. They have clarified that they are not currently seeking any other individuals in connection with the incident. No further information is available at this time.
