Andy Burnham plans UK bid to host 2038 or 2042 men’s World Cup

Great Britain is all set to make a proposal to host the 2038 or 2042 World Cup, with Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham considering it as a way to drive tourism surge and boost the wider UK economy for the first time since 1966.
He is considering this as part of an ambitious plan to bring football’s biggest tournament back to the UK for the first time.
England hosted the World Cup 60 years ago, memorable for the unforgettable victory celebration of Sir Alf Ramsey’s after beating West Germany in the final at Wembley.
Now Burnham aims to view a World Cup as a significant opportunity to drive investment, tourism and rebuilding across the entire country.
On social platform X, fans have been pouring comments with one user writing, “Save your money bumhum…. FIFA will NEVER award it to us again. We’ve been a thorn in their side too often for other countries to back us.”
The second said: “The UK is Great Britain plus Northern Ireland. So, is that suggesting that Northern Ireland hosts?”
The ambition would be to maximize the returns of hosting the tournament to stretch well beyond London. Additionally, a bid could span several regions and host cities, bringing millions of visitors to Britain and revitalizing local economies.
