Dana Brown had served as Astros GM since January 2023 and his contract was due to expire at the end of the season
Dana Brown is out as general manager of the Houston Astros despite the team currently sitting first in the American League West, the club announced Monday.
Brown had served as Astros GM since January 2023 and his contract was due to expire at the end of the season, according to ESPN.
The change comes as Houston struggles through a difficult stretch having lost six of their past eight games and holding a 65-66 record despite leading their division.
Assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey and Connor Huff, along with senior adviser Jeff Bagwell, will take over Brown’s responsibilities.
Astros owner and chairman Jim Crane will oversee baseball operations during the transition.
"Over the past four seasons, Dana has helped our organization win two division titles and has led our baseball front office through key scouting, draft and development efforts," Crane said in a statement.
Brown thanked Crane and the Astros for giving him his first opportunity as an MLB general manager.
"The Astros organization and the fans have welcomed me and my family, and I am grateful to have called Houston home for the past four seasons,” Brown said.
“I wish the organization well and I look forward to the future as I continue my 36-plus years in professional baseball."
