The viral incident involving an octopus latching onto a fisherman's face took place in Puerto Princesa, Philippines.

The fisherman, digital influencer Clarence Jay Tamula, captured widespread attention online after a freshly caught octopus suctioned itself firmly across his face and mouth, resulting in a tense, suffocating struggle as he tried to peel its powerful tentacles away.

At one point, the eight-armed beast can be seen latching onto the fisherman’s mouth, gluing it shut. The clip shows Tamula frantically trying to peel away the gripping discs one by one.

While the dramatic footage quickly circulated across social media as a shock-value nature encounter, it also sparked secondary discussions regarding handling techniques.

The incident highlighted traditional methods used by some local fishers such as biting between the octopus's eyes for a quick dispatch versus more conventional, humane tools like knives or proper handling gear.

The ensuing tug-of-war lasted nearly a minute. Because of the powerful vacuum effect of the octopus's suction cups, every time Tamula tried to yank a tentacle away, it clamped down tighter, briefly blocking his airways and causing a moment of genuine panic.

Beyond the shock value, the video inadvertently spotlighted debates regarding safe animal handling in such situations.

However, after pulling frantically and using a small tool or stick-like object to pry at the suction cups, Tamula managed to peel the creature off, escaping the encounter completely unharmed.
