Meghan Markle’s rare side revealed by insider after emotional loss

A close friend of Meghan Markle has revealed what she is really like behind closed doors, as she faces her first Christmas without her beloved rescue dog, Guy.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, suffered a deeply personal loss earlier this year when her beagle, Guy, passed away in January.

Meghan later shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, marking the end of a bond that had spanned nearly a decade and accompanied her through some of the most transformative moments of her life.

Now, the veterinary surgeon who once cared for Guy has spoken publicly about his experience with Meghan and Prince Harry, offering rare insight into her character during an emotionally challenging time.

Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, a renowned orthopaedic-neuro veterinary surgeon, spoke to The Times about treating Guy after a serious accident that occurred while Meghan was living in Canada.

He recalled how Meghan personally reached out to him when her dog was injured.

“Meghan rang me from Canada, where she was living at the time, to say Guy, her beagle, had escaped and had been found with two busted ‘wrists’,” he explained. “Would I operate? I agreed, and she brought him over.”

Professor Fitzpatrick went on to describe the remarkably down-to-earth nature of the Duke and Duchess during the ordeal.

“The duke and duchess sat on the floor. We had cake. Guy was fixed,” he said simply, highlighting the couple’s calm and unpretentious behaviour during what could have been a stressful situation.

He added that Guy went on to live for several more years after the surgery, passing away earlier this year.

“He lived until January this year, and I had a wonderful note of gratitude from Meghan, which was sweet,” the professor revealed.

Following Guy’s death, Meghan Markle shared a moving video tribute on Instagram, featuring photographs and clips of the beagle throughout the years. Some of the images included family moments with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

In her tribute, Meghan described Guy as a constant presence throughout her adult life. “He was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort,” she wrote.

Meghan also opened up about the “terrible accident” Guy suffered shortly before her move to the UK in 2017, which required months of treatment in Surrey.

“H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end,” she revealed.
