Buckingham palace unveils what's inside King Charles' royal gift

King Charles carried out a centuries-old royal tradition on Thursday!

Alongside his wife, Queen Camilla, the King attended the Royal Maundy Service at St Asaph Cathedral in North Wales.

Buckingham palace has revealed the meaningful details behind the special gifts presented by King Charles at the service.

During the ceremony, Charles presented Maundy Money to 77 men and 77 women. Via official Instagram handle of the British royal family, the palace detailed, "The Royal Maundy Service took place at St Asaph Cathedral in North Wales this morning."

It further revealed, "During the service, The King presented Royal Maundy gifts to approximately 77 men and 77 women from Wales and other dioceses across the UK."

It is pertinent to mention that the Maundy Money is distributed in recognition of recipients' "outstanding" Christian service and for "making a difference to their local communities."

The palace also revealed that King Charles presented recipients with "two purses" containing the unique Maundy Money.

Detaining what was inside the White and Red purse, the palace revealed in the caption, "In the White Purse was a set of specially minted silver Maundy coins totalling 77 pennies, to match The King’s age."

"In the Red Purse was a £5 coin commemorating 100 years since Queen Elizabeth II’s birth, and a 50p coin that celebrates the 50th anniversary of The KingsTrust," they added.
