Royal expert lifts lid on why Meghan missed Queen Elizabeth II’s final moments

A royal expert has revealed why Meghan Markle was kept away from Queen Elizabeth II’s deathbed.

According to Tom Bowers’ book Betrayal, the Duchess of Sussex had been in the UK with Prince Harry for work in September 2022 and extended her trip after the Queen fell ill.

However, then-Prince Charles allegedly called Harry to say Meghan could not be at Balmoral, where the Queen spent her final days.

He said the reason behind this decision is that Meghan had previously turned down invitations to visit.

"When Charles heard that Meghan intended to come, he called Harry. That was unacceptable, said Charles,” the author wrote.

"Since Meghan had refused the Queen’s invitations to Balmoral in the Queen’s lifetime, she was unwelcome at her death,” he added.

"Sharing his grief with Meghan, who maligned the monarchy, was unthinkable, said Charles. He believed that, to her dying day, his mother was shocked by Harry’s disloyalty."

Charles also told Harry that even Kate Middleton did not attend in order to let him know that Meghan was not being singled out.

"Charles ended their argument by revealing that Kate would not be coming, so Meghan had not been picked on.

"Still fuming, Harry discovered that William, who was unwilling to wait any longer, had ordered the plane to take off."
