Alibaba launches Qwen App, takes aim at ChatGPT dominance

Alibaba group has reportedly launched the public beta of its new Qwen app, marking the company’s most significant entry into the consumer AI market to directly compete with rivals like ChatGPT.

The recent launch comes at a deliberate time when giant rivals race to influence the consumer AI space.

It has been observed that Baidu's Ernie Bot has already surpassed 300 million users, while ByteDance’s chatbot has become one of China's most prominent AI chatbots with over 10 million daily active users.

Alibaba describes Qwen as a smart personal assistant for performing tasks more efficiently.

The application further provides tools for deep research, AI-assisted coding and features an assistant that can generate comprehensive research report and create a multis-side PowerPoint presentation effectively with just a single command within seconds.

On the contrary, the app further involves a unique agentic feature that helps users to transform complex processes into simple steps.

Nonetheless, Alibaba’s announced earlier this year it would invest at least 380 billion yuan over the next three years in AI infrastructure, underscoring the company’s belief that the battle for the future in the AI-native applications is now ready for consumer engagement.
