NEW DELHI/KARACHI: At a local school in New Delhi, India violated diplomatic norms when it refused to allow Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit to attend an event at a school.

Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit was invited by a local school as chief guest however, the move was not allowed by the Indian government, barring Basit from attending the event.

This is not the first time that India has stopped Abdul Basit from attending events in Pakistan. Six more children from Pakistan were supposed to attend the event and they too, were denied permission.

Tensions have been on the rise between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan. The crisis initiated after the assassination of freedom fighter Burhan Wani in occupied Kashmir by Indian security forces.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday and urged the UN to send a fact finding commission in occupied Kashmir to probe the killings of over a hundred innocent Kashmiri civilians.
